Cast Iron Pipes: History: Earliest uses for transporting fluids



Here are some interesting facts about Cast Iron Pipe Fittings.

The oldest recorded cast iron water pipes date from the 17th century and was used to water the gardens of the Chateau de Versailles.

1m length pipes, 35 km in total, with flanged joints was used. In 2008 with aid and refurbishment by Saint-Gobain PAM 80% of these cast iron pipes remain original.

Pipe lengths are joined by flanges. In early days flanged joints of cast iron pipes were sealed with oakum and molten lead poured on the joints.
